1. Weight (Basis Weight)
Electrostatic copy paper typically ranges from 60 to 80 grams per square meter (gsm). Some copiers support heavier weights as well.
2. Surface Gloss
Ordinary electrostatic paper allows moderate gloss. Overly smooth surfaces hinder toner adhesion and fixation. Single-coated paper suffices for single-sided copies; double-sided machines benefit from double-coated paper. Bright white paper yields optimal results.
3. Fiber Density
Fine, uniform fibers ensure clear imaging. Excessively coarse or fine fibers degrade copy quality and shed debris, accumulating inside the machine.
4. Stiffness
Weight alone does not guarantee runnability. Low-stiffness paper wrinkles or jams easily if met with slight transport resistance.
5. Moisture Content
Damp paper loses insulating properties, compromising copy fidelity.
6. Grain Direction
Paper fibers align along "grain" directions: the longer dimension is long-grain, the shorter is short-grain. Electrostatic paper performs best with long-grain orientation, offering greater stiffness, smoother feeding, and reduced tearing risk.
7. Loading Practice
Correct stacking prevents jams. Avoid mixing sheets from different stacks or positions within the same tray.
