What is Large-Format Paper and Standard-Format Paper?
"Large-format" and "standard-format" are specifications used in the printing industry to define paper dimensions. "Format" (度) refers to the measurement of the paper, while "standard" (正) implies a regular or standard specification. Paper comes in both international and domestic standards. The full sheet size for the domestic standard is 1092×787mm, which is called Standard-Format Paper. In contrast, the full sheet size for the international standard paper is 1194×889mm. Since it is larger than the domestic Standard-Format Paper, it is commonly referred to as Large-Format Paper.
In practical production applications, these two standard paper specifications (International Large-Format Paper and Domestic Standard-Format Paper) are selected and cut according to the client's requirements and the chosen standard specification. Correspondingly, different trimmed sizes are produced based on the two different specifications and standards – Large-Format and Standard-Format.
For example, paper cut from Large-Format Paper into 16mo size measures 210×285mm, also known as Large 16mo. Paper cut from Standard-Format Paper into 16mo size measures 185×260mm, also known as Standard 16mo.
What is the difference between Large-Format Paper, Standard-Format Paper, and A4, B4, C4 Paper?
In addition to the specifications of Large-Format and Standard-Format Paper, another international standard for defining paper dimensions is widely used (ISO 216). This standard defines three series of paper sizes: A, B, and C. They are distinguished using designations like A0, A1, A2... / B0, B1, B2... / C0, C1, C2..., respectively. Among these, the C series sizes are primarily used for envelopes. The common printing paper we refer to as A4 (210×297mm) is defined according to this very standard.
