As we all know, paper is a recyclable material. But did you know? Not all paper products can be recycled!
First of all, recyclable paper products should have two characteristics: first, the paper can be recycled and reused; second, the paper remains clean and free from pollution. In daily life, recyclable paper products mainly include: newspapers, periodicals and magazines, books, various packaging papers, office papers, etc.
Waste newspapers are one of the common recyclable paper products. Since newsprint made from pure wood pulp is prone to breaking under conditions such as pressure and temperature differences, recycling waste newspapers to produce recycled paper can reduce the felling of trees and lower the environmental pollution caused by papermaking.

Abandoned cardboard boxes are commonly used as logistics packaging materials in industries such as express delivery, logistics, and warehousing. They can be recycled. When made into recycled cardboard boxes, it can reduce the consumption of wood and save a large amount of water and energy required for the production of new paper.
Old books can also be treated as recyclable paper. The paper in books usually comes from the lightweight paper used in printing factories. It does not contain serious pollutants or removed printing ink. After recycling, it can be made into high-quality recycled paper, which can be used to produce various books, notebooks and magazines, etc.
Cardboard is one of the most commonly used recyclable items for packaging. It is processed into corrugated cardboard boxes and various paper packaging materials, and is widely applied. After being recycled, it can also be made into differentiated recycled cardboard, which can be used to manufacture various packaging materials and logistics products.
However, some paper products do not qualify for recycling. For instance, dirty paper is not recyclable. This type of paper has strong water solubility and will dissolve when exposed to water, making it impossible to be recycled. Such paper does not belong to recyclable paper products but falls under other types of waste. Examples include toilet paper, napkins, and kitchen paper.
There are also disposable water cups and paper-based instant noodle containers. These paper cups and containers are designed to insulate and prevent leakage. On the inner layer, a special layer of polyethylene plastic film is applied to ensure these items can withstand heat and prevent water leakage. The separation process is extremely difficult, making it impossible to recycle and reuse. Therefore, even if they are clean and unused, they cannot be recycled and belong to other types of waste.
Also, wet wipes, carbon paper, unprocessed milk cartons, and so on are all "paper" items that cannot be recycled and fall under the category of other waste.
