What should be done with leftover ink after printing? How should ink be stored? What environmental conditions are most suitable for ink storage? What strategies can extend ink shelf life? Below are detailed recommendations.
Ink viscosity and drying behavior are highly sensitive to temperature fluctuations. As temperature rises, viscosity decreases and drying accelerates; conversely, lower temperatures increase viscosity and slow drying. Humidity also influences drying performance. Ideally, maintain workshop temperature between 18–25°C and humidity between 55–65%.
Methods to Extend Ink Shelf Life:
1. Seal unused ink and store it in a cool, dark place for future reuse. Before reuse, filter through a 100-mesh screen, stir thoroughly, and mix with fresh ink.
2. In cold climates, avoid outdoor storage to prevent gelation. If ink gels, move it to a warmer area or immerse in warm water to restore its original state.
3. Follow the "first in, first out" principle for ink inventory management to minimize aging effects.
4. Keep ink containers sealed to prevent dust contamination, which can degrade print quality.
5. Store ink away from heat sources and ignition hazards to ensure workplace safety.
6. Maintain stable warehouse temperatures, minimizing differences from the printing environment. Allow ink to acclimate before use to stabilize performance and enhance productivity.
7. Ink has a limited shelf life. Extended storage may cause component separation and precipitation. Generally, storing ink for around one year is acceptable; beyond that, performance degradation and printing issues may occur.
