Corrugated cartons are paper packaging containers made of corrugated cardboard. They have many advantages: light weight and good structural performance. Its internal corrugated structure is similar to an arched structure, which can play a role in shock absorption and vibration reduction, and has good mechanical properties. It has many good protective functions for packaged items. For example, moisture-proof, heat dissipation, easy to handle, etc. The transportation cost is low, and it is easy to achieve mechanization and automation in packaging and transportation.

The changes in specifications and dimensions are easy to achieve and can quickly adapt to the packaging of various items. Sealing the box and strapping are both convenient and easy to be automated. It can adapt to the decoration and printing of various types of cartons and can well solve the problems of product protection and promotion.

Waste boxes are easy to recycle and reuse, meeting environmental protection requirements. It can be combined with various coverings or moisture-proof materials to expand its application range.

According to the structure of corrugated cartons, they can be roughly classified into three major categories:

Slotted carton (Type 02)

Slotted cartons are the most fundamental type of carton in transport packaging and are also the most widely used type of carton at present. It is a carton composed of one or several processed corrugated cardboard pieces, which are combined by nailing or bonding. Its bottom and top disassembled pieces (upper and lower shaking covers) form the box bottom and box cover. This type of carton can be folded and placed flat during transportation and storage. It has the advantages of small volume, convenient use, dust-proof sealing, and cleanliness both inside and out.

(2) Nested carton (Type 03)

The nested type carton is composed of one or several processed corrugated cardboard pieces. Its characteristic is that the box body and the box cover are separate and nested when in use. The advantages of this type of carton are that it is convenient to pack and seal, and the goods are less likely to fall off after being loaded. The overall strength of the carton is higher than that of the slotted type carton. The drawback is that after the sleeve molding, the volume is large, making transportation and storage inconvenient.

(3) Folding carton (Type 04)

Folding cartons, also known as irregular-shaped cartons, are usually composed of a single piece of corrugated cardboard. The bottom, sides and lid of the carton are formed by folding without the need for nailing or gluing.

In addition, to prevent the goods from being damaged during transportation, according to the characteristics and requirements of different goods, it is necessary to design structurally reasonable accessories to play a role in protecting the goods.

The most basic carton accessories usually include:

(1) Divider: It is used for packaging fragile and easily damaged items like bottles, separating each item within the box to prevent shaking and collision.

(2) Backing plates: There are basically three types of backing plates: One is the full backing plate, which is used for multi-layer stacking inside the box and serves as a layer isolation. The second type is the bridge liner, which is used to fill the gap at the closing point of the flap inside the carton. The third type is the liner ring. To enhance the compressive strength of the carton and protect the goods, liner plates are placed around all four sides of the carton.

(3) Padding: According to the different shapes and weak parts of the goods, various padding is designed to fix the goods, ensuring that they do not move during transportation, and at the same time, it has a buffering effect.
