Many packaging professionals will be confused when choosing white card paper, whether to pick SBS white core white base or FBB yellow core white card. In fact, both are common coated white card papers used in cigarette packages, cosmetic boxes, and pharmaceutical packaging, but the raw materials and performance are quite different.

SBS white core white
SBS white core white base is officially called Solid Bleached Sulphate, commonly known as white core white card or SBS white card paper. It is made from 100% bleached sulphate wood pulp, with the surface layer, core layer, and base layer all being bleached pulp. Therefore, when cut open, the core is pure white, and the back is also a white base. The paper fibers are fine, the density is high, and the surface has been coated by 2-3 times with a scraper, with high whiteness, pure color, and a smooth and delicate touch.

While FBB yellow core white card (Folding Box Board) is a three-layer structure: the surface layer and base layer use sulphate wood pulp, and the core layer uses chemical mechanical grinding wood pulp. Because the core layer has a slight yellow tint, it is called yellow core white card. Under the same weight, FBB is usually thicker, has better stiffness, and has a relatively lower cost. For example, a 230g FBB can reach about 320μm in thickness, while a 295μm SBS is about the same weight, but SBS is thinner but denser.

In terms of printing effect, SBS white core white base is clearly superior: dot reproduction is good, colors are bright and full, especially suitable for high-end hot stamping, UV, embossing and other post-processing, with a high-end and elegant visual effect. FBB printing is also good, but the细腻ness and whiteness are slightly inferior, suitable for ordinary color boxes with high stiffness requirements.
The application field differences are obvious:
• SBS white core white base is mostly used in high-end cigarette packages, cosmetic packaging, pharmaceutical boxes, and food-grade high-end color boxes, where extreme whiteness and printing texture are required.
• FBB yellow core white card is more often used in packaging with requirements for thickness and hardness, and has a higher cost-effectiveness.
When purchasing, pay attention to the weight (210-350g is common), single-sided coating or double-sided coating, and whether it is food-grade certified. If you have a sufficient budget and want to maintain brand style, choose SBS white core white base; if you want to balance cost and stiffness, FBB yellow core white card is a good choice.
In summary, SBS white card paper and FBB yellow core white card have no absolute superiority or inferiority. The key lies in your packaging requirements. For high-end visual priority, choose SBS white core white base; for practical and stiffness requirements, choose FBB. Before placing an order, it is best to try printing and folding samples to get the most intuitive effect.
