Usage Guidelines

3.1 Pre-Use Preparation

Storage: Store in a dry, cool environment with humidity between 40%-60% and temperatures below 25°C (77°F). Keep packages sealed to prevent moisture absorption or dust contamination.

Conditioning: Allow the cardboard to acclimate to the printing/processing environment for 24 hours before use to minimize dimensional changes due to temperature/humidity fluctuations.

3.2 Printing Processes

3.2.1 Ink Selection

Use water-based, UV-curable, or solvent-based inks suitable for coated surfaces. Test ink compatibility on a sample piece first to ensure optimal adhesion and color performance.

Avoid excessive ink density to prevent smudging or slow drying, especially for dark or vibrant colors.

3.2.2 Printing Techniques

Offset Printing: Ensure the press is calibrated for coated stock (adjust ink viscosity and pressure to avoid dot gain). Use low-friction blankets to protect the glossy surface.

Digital Printing: Select "coated paper" settings on your printer. Allow sufficient drying time between color layers for inkjet prints to prevent smearing.

Screen Printing: Use a fine mesh (150-200 lines/inch) for detailed designs. Apply moderate pressure to ensure even ink transfer without damaging the coating.

3.2.3 Quality Checks

Inspect printed sheets for uniform ink coverage, color consistency, and absence of scratches or smudges. Address issues immediately to avoid batch defects.

3.3 Post-Print Processing

3.3.1 Die Cutting & Creasing

Use sharp, well-maintained dies to prevent edge fraying or coating peeling. Adjust die pressure according to cardboard thickness (e.g., 400g may require slightly higher pressure than 250g).

For creasing, ensure the crease line is centered and smooth to facilitate folding without cracking the coating.

3.3.2 Lamination & Varnishing

Apply matte, glossy, or soft-touch lamination to enhance durability, moisture resistance, and tactile experience. Ensure the laminating film is compatible with the cardboard coating.

Use UV varnish for spot-gloss effects on logos or graphics, but test adhesion on a sample to avoid peeling.

3.3.3 Gluing & Assembling

Use water-based or hot-melt adhesives suitable for coated surfaces. Apply adhesive evenly to ensure strong bonding, especially for load-bearing structures (e.g., box bottoms).

Avoid excessive glue on visible areas to prevent residue or coating damage.

3.4 Handling & Transportation

Handle sheets/reels with clean, dry hands or gloves to prevent fingerprints or oil stains on the coated surface.

Stack cardboard flat and evenly to maintain flatness. Use pallets or protective boards during transportation to avoid bending or moisture exposure.

Precautions

Moisture Sensitivity: Coated cardboard is prone to warping or edge curl in high humidity. Avoid prolonged exposure to damp environments.

Abrasion Risk: The glossy surface may scratch during rough handling or contact with sharp objects. Store finished products in protective sleeves or boxes.

Temperature Limits: Do not expose to extreme heat (above 40°C/104°F) or cold (below 0°C/32°F), as this may affect coating adhesion or cardboard stiffness.

Disposal & Recycling

Recycle according to local regulations. Coated cardboard is generally recyclable, but check with your recycling facility for specific guidelines (some coatings may require special processing).

Dispose of waste scraps responsibly to minimize environmental impact.
