Carbonless (pressure-sensitive) printing paper is a specialized medium designed for impact-based printing applications-such as multi-part forms, receipts, and invoices-where image transfer occurs without carbon sheets. Standard paper formats include A0, A1, A2, B1, B2, A4, and A5; among these, A4 is most frequently employed for general-purpose documents and assessments. This document addresses prevalent operational challenges specifically associated with A3-sized carbonless paper.

1. Insufficient or Faint Image Development on Carbonless Paper
(1) Absence of visible image: This may result from incorrect paper orientation in the printer. Reinserting the paper with proper alignment-ensuring the coated (chemically reactive) side faces the print head-is typically sufficient to restore functionality.
(2) Faint or inconsistent image density: Potential causes include inadequate print head pressure or mechanical degradation (e.g., misaligned or damaged print pins). Adjusting the print force setting to an optimal level and inspecting the print head for physical defects-including bent or broken pins-are recommended corrective actions.

2. Reduced Color-Developing Performance on A5-Sized Carbonless Paper During Winter Months
Color development in carbonless paper relies on an exothermic acid–dye reaction initiated by localized pressure. As this chemical process is temperature-dependent, lower ambient temperatures-particularly during winter-can slow reaction kinetics, resulting in delayed or less intense color formation. This behavior is expected and falls within normal operational parameters; it does not indicate product defect or printer malfunction.

3. Paper Jamming During Printing
To mitigate paper jams when using carbonless paper:
(1) Verify correct paper orientation and alignment with the paper feed mechanism. The leading edge must be inserted squarely and fully seated; any curling, skewing, or misalignment increases jam risk.
(2) When configuring multi-layer sets, ensure the print head's active area remains centered over the printable zone-avoid positioning near the lateral edges of A5 sheets, as edge proximity may induce layer shifting, ink bleed, or mechanical interference.
(3) After printing, confirm that the paper exit path is unobstructed and that the take-up rollers operate within their rated load capacity. Overloading the feed/exit system-especially with thick multi-ply sets-may compromise roller traction and cause feeding failure.

4. Printer Compatibility for Multi-Part Carbonless Forms
Receipt printers and push-type (tractor-feed) impact printers are best suited for carbonless multi-sheet applications. Their mechanical design minimizes paper torsion and maintains consistent planarity throughout the print path. Additionally, they deliver high, uniform impact force-critical for reliable image transfer across multiple plies.

5. Preventing Post-Printing Tear Damage
To avoid tearing along perforations or separation lines after repeated handling or printing:
- Always fold along designated perforated or scored separation lines;
- Apply gentle, even pressure with one hand along the fold line while carefully peeling the layers apart with the other;
- Avoid abrupt or asymmetric pulling forces, which may exceed the tensile strength of the substrate at weak points.
