Many brands and manufacturers focus only on design, printing and cost when making packaging, but ignore the most important foundation - the paper itself.
When the finished boxes turn out to be soft, easily deformed, or the color fades with a single touch, most people blame the printing process. In fact, 90% of these problems start with choosing the wrong paperboard.

Soft & Warped Boxes: Poor Stiffness & Moisture Resistance
If your box cannot hold its shape, feels soft when pressed, or warps in storage and transportation, the core issue is the physical performance of the paperboard.
Using paperboard with low basis weight, insufficient stiffness or poor ring crush strength directly results in weak structure. Low-quality paperboard also absorbs moisture easily, especially during long-distance shipping or in humid environments. Once the fibers absorb water, the box quickly loses strength, collapses and deforms.
Simply choosing a "thick-looking" paper is not enough. Correct selection means matching stiffness, weight and moisture resistance to your box structure.

Fading, Scratching & Poor Ink Adhesion
Beautiful printing that easily smudges, scratches or rubs off is rarely caused by ink alone. It mostly comes from incompatible paper surface properties.
Paper with rough surface, uneven coating or weak surface strength cannot hold ink firmly. Papers with improper ink absorption also lead to poor color fastness. For high-end gift boxes, luxury packaging and handbags that require frequent touching, low-grade paperboard will quickly ruin the premium appearance.

Why the Right Paperboard Matters
The sturdiness, shape retention, color performance and overall texture of your packaging are determined at the moment you choose the paper.
Choosing the correct paperboard avoids deformation, fading, moisture damage and unnecessary rework. For premium packaging, the right paper is never an expense - it is an investment in your brand image.
